VECCHIO / OLD Opos 2006 Competition

This year OPOS wants to tackle the concept/subject of the “old”. We doubt, but often tend to think that the past is better than the present, that what we once had is better than what we have now. Memories, what used to be and will no longer be. That “oldie but goldie” thing. Our own personal “good old days”. Unique, unrepeatable. It might seem a paradox that the “old” as a category gains value when it connects us to some experience we had when we were young. To something which is in the past but permanently belongs to memory. We often think that things past are better than present ones. And that old is a synomnym for “ancient” and therefore indicates the ability to collect experiences. For this reason we sometimes think that “old” rhymes with “wise”. Even if an old man is often just somone who is old. And we have plenty of these old people (at least in the first world). Ours is a society made of old people but neglets them in communication. They are not considered suitable to represent the glossy world of products and consumption.

participation

Participation is open to all designers, architects, students, design amateurs, in team or individually, of any nationality.

submitting projects

Entering the competition will only be possible through the dedicated form in the section competitions on the website www.opos.it

7. progrmamme

The deadline for submitting projects is 31 January 2007. Projects submitted later than this date will not be allowed into the competition.

Shortlisted projects will be selected among the entries received by the date indicated in paragraph 7

and their prototypes will be displayed in an exhibition at ASAPSTORE Corso Garibaldi 104,

during the days of the ‘Fuori Salone del Mobile’ 2007.

By 12 February 2007 selections will be communicated so that their designers will be able to

start the making of prototypes. After that, the organisation of the exhibition will continue as follows:

By 9 March 2007 and no later: supply of the images of the prototypes and of the final project description (Italian/English, downloadable form from the website www.opos.it);

10 April 2007: supply of the prototypes for the exhibition;

18 -23 April 2007 exhibition.
