OMA will build the highest building in Latin America



Mexican firm DANHOS will build a skyscraper to celebrate Mexico´s independence from Spain. The building, which is estimated to cost $600 million US, is scheduled to open in 2010 in time to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s independence. Mass is shape by two pyramidal forms connected by opposite sides. In the level of converse there is located a glass sky lobby. Building is multifunctional - housing, offices, museum, gym etc.

OMD This is fantastic i think:) I wish i could design this. Umm i am doig a school projest and i would like to know the persons name who designed this piece of art and i would like to know when it was build and how long it took to build and why did he/she design it and where is it
How old is this press release? It says “scheduled to open in 2010″ however I haven’t even heard about the start of the construction.
Maybe this wasn’t the right project for Mexico City, but it is certanly true, that Mexico needs this kind of projects if Mexico wants to be part of the developing countries “race”…
They won’t build this… political problems, and differences in the way of thinking… As result, the only “monument” to celebrate the bicentennial, would be a ridiculous monument that nobody will see, because of it’s size… there were some really interesting projects and of course, because of cost, and partnerships, they choose the “best” for their own interests… what a shame…











Nice shape, but totally disproportionate to everything in the city fabric. Notably missing from this rendering is the massive shadow this structure will cast.
